Fuel Your Potential: Behind the MudGear x Corinna Perkins Collaboration

We first knew her as Corinna Coffin.

Back then, she was a college senior and one of the emerging names in the early days of obstacle course racing. In her rookie OCR season in 2014, Corinna finished second at the Spartan World Championship after leading much of the 15-mile race.

And then she kept moving.

Professional OCR. Tough Mudder X. The CrossFit Games. Spartan Stadium. Tactical Games. HYROX. DEKA. Running. Rucking. Hybrid competition.

More than a decade later, Corinna Perkins has never really settled into being just one kind of athlete. And that may be the best way to understand both her story and our newest collaboration.

The MudGear x Corinna Perkins sock also marks the beginning of something new for us: MudGear Legends of the Sport, an athlete collaboration series created to recognize and support athletes who helped shape obstacle course racing and continue to push the sports that have grown from it.

MudGear's roots run deep in OCR. This series is one way we're honoring those roots while supporting the athletes who helped build them. A percentage of sales from each Legends of the Sport collaboration will go directly to the featured athlete to help with training, racing and travel expenses.

Corinna is where we're starting.

Not simply because of what she's accomplished, but because her evolution as an athlete mirrors so much of what has happened around the sport itself.

This first collaboration is a sock built with and for Corinna—for an athlete who wants to stay ready, keep exploring and find out what she's capable of.

Or, in Corinna's words:

Fuel Your Potential.

From OCR Rookie to Whatever Comes Next

MudGear and Corinna go back a long way.

Both of our stories have roots in the early days of obstacle course racing, when the sport itself was still figuring out exactly what it wanted to become.

Corinna was doing some figuring out of her own.

That second-place finish at the 2014 Spartan World Championship wasn't just an early career breakthrough. She remembers it as one of the moments that changed the direction of her life.

She had led most of the race before, as she puts it, completely “bonking” over the final two miles. Rather than simply seeing it as a race that got away, she started asking why.

That became an “aha” moment that pushed her to learn more about sports nutrition and proper fueling for performance—an interest that would eventually become a career.

But first, there were plenty more starting lines.

In 2017, she won the inaugural Tough Mudder X World Championship, an event that blended obstacle racing with functional fitness. The following year, she competed at the CrossFit Games as part of a team. Spartan Stadion, Spartan Games, Tactical Games and other strength-and-endurance competitions followed.

The disciplines changed. The willingness to be a beginner didn't.

My athletic pursuits over the years have been largely driven by having fun and challenging myself in new ways.

For Corinna, there is something appealing about showing up to a new discipline “green,” learning it and working your way up.

I love a challenge and the learning involved + humility required to work from the ground up. You have to enjoy the journey/process rather than getting to the destination quickly.

Learning What Performance Really Requires

All those different competitions also gave Corinna plenty of opportunities to discover what worked—and what didn't.

Looking back, some of the moments she remembers most aren't necessarily the wins.

There were second places and near misses. There was the CrossFit Games team that entered as an underdog. There was a torn ACL at the 2022 Tactical Games in Oregon, followed by surgery, a year of rehabilitation and eventually a return to competition.

Those experiences changed the way she thought about performance.

I'm grateful for the losses and the lessons learned, of which there are many; for all the moments that left me wondering if I executed to the extent I was truly capable of, or if there was more to be uncovered.

One of the biggest pieces she eventually uncovered was nutrition.

Corinna went on to earn her credentials as a sports dietitian and today works as a performance dietitian and coach. What she learned through both education and years of competition now helps her guide other athletes toward understanding how smart fueling can help them realize their own potential.

Fuel Your Potential

Ask Corinna what she wishes she understood about fueling when she first started racing, and her answer goes well beyond eating the “right” foods.

Fueling is so much more than eating ‘healthy’ foods. It’s a plan, a strategy, that’s been well thought out in advance.

More importantly, she sees fueling as a mindset based on trust rather than restriction:

When we give [our body] the tools it needs, we get to see what we are truly capable of; in essence, we are ‘fueling our potential.’

That mantra—FUEL YOUR POTENTIAL—is knitted into the back of the MudGear x Corinna sock.

But the idea extends well beyond nutrition—or socks.

It's about giving yourself the tools to take the next opportunity when it comes, even if you don't know exactly what that opportunity will be.

A Collaboration Years in the Making

Corinna didn't discover MudGear for this project.

MudGear and Corinna share a strong history:

I've been wearing MudGear socks for as long as I can remember, beginning in my OCR days, and I've continued to wear them throughout my ever-changing fitness journey.

MudGear has changed during those years, too. Our roots will always be in OCR, but the athletes wearing our socks today are running, rucking, hiking, lifting, racing and combining disciplines in ways that didn't necessarily have names when we started.

Corinna noticed the parallel.

Like me, MudGear has continued to evolve throughout the changing fitness industry and cater to all different types of athletes.

So when the opportunity came to build something together, the concept wasn't a sock designed around a single sport.

Corinna wanted “a hybrid sock that could do a bit of everything.”

Built for More Than One Lane

The design reflects Corinna, too

Blue and green have long been favorite colors of hers, but here they took on additional meaning: the intersection of performance and fueling, with food, water and the natural world represented in the palette.

The crew height brings some of the classic gym-sock aesthetic Corinna wanted while maintaining the snug, performance-oriented fit she prefers for racing and training.

And when it comes to what's actually on her feet, her requirements are pretty straightforward: keep them dry and ventilated, stay smooth and form-fitting rather than bulky, and add cushioning where it matters in the heel and toe.

Run in it. Lift in it. Race in it.

Corinna wanted a sock that could move between disciplines as easily as she does—one pair built for training days, race days and whatever comes next.

The Next Chapter

Corinna's life looks a little different today.

In 2025, the physical challenge she was preparing for wasn't a race at all—it was becoming a mom. During pregnancy, she shifted her focus from competition toward preparing her body for childbirth and building the strength she knew she'd need for motherhood.

In 2026, she returned to competition at H20 Hybrid Games, her first event after having her son. She finished second and came away especially proud of what her body could still do despite having far less time to train.

But competition isn't the center of everything right now.

She's a mom and wife first, as she puts it, as well as a business owner, nutrition coach and athlete. She still carves out time to train consistently, but she's also embracing a different season of life—and finding an identity that doesn't depend on standing on a podium.

The athlete is still very much there.

Ask what's next and Corinna doesn't have a specific race or finish line in mind.

And that's sort of the point.

I will always continue to chase things that bring me joy and challenge me in new ways. I enjoy learning new skills and working my way from the bottom up.

Then comes the part that sounds particularly familiar after following the previous decade of her career:

I'm not sure what exactly will be next, but there doesn't seem to be a shortage of new opportunities these days!

Whatever comes next, she'll be ready.

Fuel Your Potential.
